Our mission is to empower and elevate Black, Indigenous, Persons Of Color (BIPOC) Deaf, DeafBlind, DeafDisabled, Heritage, and Hearing interpreters by providing essential resources, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.
The development of this BEACON curriculum provides a pathway for interpreter education programs to engage meaningfully with students of color and the larger communities of color, including Deaf family members, friends, coworkers, and comrades in struggle.
We believe the field of interpreting is a uniquely positioned sector within society to spread a new social and educational framework. We are in an era of high attrition due to a lack of educational opportunities and support for BIPOC individuals entering the field of ASL-English interpreting
